THE URBAN MERMAID MEETS THE UNICORNS!

Today was a slightly different day at The Unicorn as we had a very special visit from a Mermaid. Lindsey Coles (AKA The Urban Mermaid) came in to talk to the children about her massive undertaking to swim the length of the Thames dressed as a mermaid.

Lindsey, accompanied by her artist friend Barbara, is swimming the Thames to highlight the amount of plastic that is thrown away in this country and how lots of it end up in the rivers and then eventually the seas and oceans. More information can be found at: https://www.urbanmermaid.org/

To support Lindsey the children all came in to school dressed as either unicorns, mermaids or in their own clothes. They made quite a splash! We will add the £100 raised by the school to Lindsey’s fund raising page which can be found at: https://www.gofundme.com/urban-mermaid?member=1028246. It would be great if you are able to support this incredible challenge.

After speaking to the children about this challenge Lindsey was accompanied to the river at Abingdon by the Y6 children who cheered her on her way. Lindsey is hopefully going to finish her challenge on 24th November when she arrives at Teddington Lock.
