Maximising the potential of every student starts with their senses: how we perceive the world directly influences how we move, the skills we develop, our emotional reactions, behaviour, social interaction and ability to focus, engage and participate.
Our in-house Occupational Therapy team supports students with sensory integration, motor skills and physical needs. We work holistically and consider the student’s emotions, development, values and aspirations. The level of support is tailored to meet the needs of the individual student and may for example, include direct therapy and / or collaborative working approaches to support student participation and skill development, such as to:
· Recommend strategies and accommodations to assist with home or school-based tasks and participation.
· Promote sensory-friendly approaches, accessibility and modifications to the school or classroom environment.
· Promote self-regulation approaches to increase focus, engagement and participation.
· Promote physical activity and class-based opportunities for skills practice or guidelines for increased participation.
· Set appropriate expectations to support the student’s success.
Train or consult to promote a deeper understanding of sensory, motor and functional needs.
