Pupils from Year 7 to Year 11 form the secondary part of The Unicorn School. Year 7 & 8 form KS3 and Years 9 -11 are KS4.
In KS3 pupils continue to have daily one-to-one lessons with a specialist teacher alongside English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Digital Skills, PSHE, RE, Art & PE. Many of these are taught by secondary subject specialists and the heads of English, Maths & Science oversee the curriculum.
In Years 9 to 11, pupils have 2 x 1 hour lessons of Study Skills each week taught by specialist teachers who focus on metacognitive skills, overlearning of vocabulary, and revision techniques. All of which are proven to improve outcomes for pupils. They also work with our therapy teams to create and implement bespoke strategies for individual pupils
Towards the end of Year 9 pupils choose their options for Year 10 & 11. All pupils continue to study towards a qualification in:
- English Language
- Maths
- Science
In addition, all pupils continue to have lessons in
- PSHE
- RE
- PE
- Study Skills
In addition to their taught subjects, all pupils work towards completing a Bronze Certificate for the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
The option choices vary from year to year depending on the cohort of pupils. Currently the options are:
