At The Unicorn Trust, we help families gain a clearer understanding of how their child learns.
Our specialist assessments can identify Specific Learning Differences (SpLDs) such a Dyslexia, Dyspraxia or Dyscalculia and provide practical recommendations for home and school.
Independent Assessment Service
Our Assessment Centre operates independently from The Unicorn School admissions process.
An assessment may help you better understand your child’s needs, but it does not guarantee a place at The Unicorn School. Admissions are considered separately through the school’s usual procedures.
What’s Included in the Assessment Package?
All assessments are delivered as part of our comprehensive Assessment Package (£695 + VAT), designed to support families before, during and after the assessment process.
The package includes:
- Pre-assessment consultation with our Assessment Lead
- Parent Support Session on assessment day
- Comprehensive diagnostic assessment
- Detailed written diagnostic report
- Post-assessment feedback consultation with your assessor
Our aim is to ensure that families leave with a clear understanding of their child’s strengths and needs, together with practical recommendations and confidence about the next steps.
What to Expect
Before the Assessment
You’ll have an online consultation with our Assessment Lead to discuss your child’s strengths, challenges and learning history, ensuring the assessment is informed by the most relevant information.
On Assessment Day
Your child will complete a comprehensive diagnostic assessment with one of our qualified specialist assessors.
While your child is being assessed, parents and carers are invited to attend a Parent Support Session covering SEND processes, support options and educational pathways, with opportunities to ask questions and share experiences with other families.
After the Assessment
You’ll have a detailed diagnostic report outlining:
- Your child’s strengths and areas of need
- Whether findings are consistent with Dyslexia or Dyscalculia
- Recommendations for home and school
- Suggested support strategies and next steps
You’ll also be invited to a feedback consultation with your assessor to discuss the findings and recommendations in more detail.
Our Assessors
All assessments are carried out by experienced specialists who hold a current Assessment Practicing Certificate (APC), are enhanced DBS checked, and have extensive experience supporting children with diverse learning needs.
