At The Unicorn Trust, we understand that every child learns in their own way. Many families come to us because they see their child’s curiosity, imagination and potential, but also sense that something isn’t quite working. Our assessments provide clarity, reassurance, and guidance so you can support your child with confidence.
Our Assessment Centre runs separately from The Unicorn School. Some families start with an assessment to better understand their child’s needs, while others are exploring specialist education options. Wherever you are in your journey, we are here to help. Please note that an assessment with us does not guarantee a place at The Unicorn School. Admissions to The Unicorn School have their own process and criteria, and our assessments are just one tool to inform your decisions.
We hope this helps you feel informed and ready to explore what is best for your child.
How We Can Support You
We offer two specialist assessments for children aged 8–16:
- Full Diagnostic Dyslexia Assessment – £600 + VAT
- Full Diagnostic Dyscalculia Assessment – £600 + VAT
Our assessments are carried out by highly experienced specialists. Each assessor holds a current Assessment Practising Certificate (APC), is enhanced DBS checked, and works daily with children who think and learn differently.
What the Assessment Journey Looks Like
Our Assessment Centre operates one day a week for administration, triage, and bookings, so when you reach out, please allow us a little time to respond with care.
Assessments take place termly, usually on a Saturday or Sunday, at our Ock Mill site. A full assessment run either from 9:00am–12:30pm (dyslexia) or 9am-2:30pm (dyscalculia), including a break.
Before the day, you’ll be introduced to your child’s assessor. We gather information through short parent and school questionnaires to understand your child’s strengths, challenges and learning history, helping us build a thoughtful and complete picture of who they are.
On the day, families are welcome to stay onsite or explore Abingdon’s nearby cafés and shops.
