The Unicorn School

A Specialist School supporting pupils with dyslexia and related learning difficulties

Outreach Seminar: Supporting Literacy at Home

Yesterday evening The Unicorn School hosted the first of our Outreach Seminars to support parents of children with literacy difficulties.

Aimed at parents of primary school aged children Key Stage 1 and 2, the seminar discussed and demonstrated ways in which parents can support their children's literacy at home.  Parents rotated around "carousel" of tables, at each table specialist teachers from The Unicorn School addressed a different aspect such as sound games, reading, spelling, handwriting and mind-mapping.

The seminar was led by The Unicorn School's Outreach Co-ordinator Mrs Clare Roberts, and supported by teachers Mrs Chappelle, Mrs Carlini, Mrs Davies, Mr Day, Mrs Day, Miss Johnson, Mrs McIntyre and Mrs McMullen.

The Unicorn School is an independent school specialising in teaching children with dyslexia and related learning difficulties.  Our outreach programme is designed to share what we do at our school, free of charge, with parents and carers of children in the local area.  We plan to run similar seminars in the future, the next one directed at parents of senior-school aged children Key Stage 3.  Parents wishing to join us should contact the school to register a place.
