Unicorn School

Remembering our Patron, Sir Bob Reid

It was with deep sadness that we learnt of the death of Sir Bob Reid, Patron of The Unicorn School, who died last month at the age of 91.

Sir Bob supported the school for many years, initially alongside his wife Lady Joan Reid, who was a co-founder of The Unicorn School. Following Lady Reid’s death in 2017, he continued in the role of Patron, showing deep commitment to the school’s values.

A true captain of British industry, Sir Bob was Chief Executive at Shell UK and British Rail, amongst a host of other leadership roles. Sir Bob was not only a distinguished man in so many walks of life, but also a truly valued Patron of our school. His quiet wisdom, generous spirit, and genuine commitment to supporting children with learning differences left a lasting impression on our whole community. Both he and Lady Reid held The Unicorn School close to their hearts, and we remain deeply grateful for the time, energy, and belief they gave us over many years.

“We feel privileged to have had Sir Bob as part of our story. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched – here at Unicorn and far beyond.”

– Andrew Strivens, Chair of Governors

Our thoughts are with his family and all who knew him.
