Maple Year 9
Welcome to Maple
Year 9 is an exciting year as we begin preparing for our GCSE studies, in readiness for our full GCSE programme which commences in Year 10.
In English we will be exploring creative writing and the development of vocabulary; poetry, poetic conventions and devices; and how narrative writing employs setting, plot and characterisation.
Our maths topics include number operations; scientific notation; Pythagoras’ Theorem; linear and non-linear functions and probability and statistics.
In science we will learn more about the properties of materials and about the cell structure and adaptations of living organisms. We will explore forces and motion, and in Earth Science we will find out about erosion, rock formation, plate tectonics and their effects on human settlement.
In Art we will explore Anatomy and the Self, learning traditional painting techniques using a variety of materials to create a self-portrait. We will be referencing artists such as Lucian Freud, Anthony Gormley, Gainsbourgh and Matisse.
These are just a few of the exciting things we will be learning this year.
