Unicorn School

Aims and Ethos

Who We Are

At The Unicorn School, we are committed to transforming the lives of children with learning differences and their families. Our approach integrates a personalised curriculum, expert staff, innovative technology, and a nurturing environment to help children thrive and families flourish. We support children aged 7 to 16 years who find mainstream education challenging due to conditions such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, Autism, or ADHD. These conditions can affect their language, speech, writing, or maths skills, impacting their self-esteem and future opportunities.

Our Vision

To transform the lives of children with learning differences and their families.

Our Mission

To equip our students with the necessary skills and confidence to become independent learners, so that they can recognise their personal strengths  and communicate their individual needs, goals, and values as they take on the next chapter.

Our Values

Our values, chosen by our students and staff, reflect the ethos of our school:

  • Respect: Emphasising self-respect, tolerance, understanding, acceptance, healthy living and mutual respect.
  • Determination: Encouraging focus, perseverance, resilience, aspiration, challenge and dedication.
  • Teamwork: Fostering friendship, fun, communication, kindness, contribution and positivity.

What Makes Us Unique

  • The way we teach: Everything we do is tailored to meet the individual needs of each student.
  • The way we use technology: Every student in the school has a laptop to support their learning and wellbeing.
  • The way we support the whole student: We address the academic, social, and emotional wellbeing of our students.
  • The way we are staffed: We have a maximum of 12 students in each class, supported by both a teacher and a teaching assistant.
  • The way we support our families: We work closely with families to support their child’s educational journey.
  • The way we prepare our students for life: We equip students with the skills and confidence needed for life beyond school.
