Outreach for Parents
The Unicorn School hosts evening seminars for parents of children at The Unicorn School and parents of children in the local community, demonstrating ways in which they can support their children’s literacy at home.
Sessions are tailored for parents of either primary or secondary age children, and employ an innovative “carousel” format with parents rotating around 4 micro-workshops.
So far this academic year we have hosted two evenings for parents. One was for parents of Key Stage 2 children and we covered areas such as how to support their reading and spelling at home as well as their Maths, Language and handwriting. We also held an evening for parents of Key Stage 3 children on how to support your child as the syllabus gets harder, sessions were held on; higher order reading skills, assistive technology, Science and Maths.
Parents who attended found the evening was,
‘Incredibly informative with lots of ideas I could use at home with my child’
